In celebration of my 49th birthday my dearest friend Marisa and I went to the ocean at exactly midnight, jumped in the water naked (except for our matching hand dyed silk scarves) and I received a ceremonial baptism by 3 full submersions; vowing something incredibly profound and meaningful at the time. Oblivious that we could be arrested for nudity on a public beach, we laid in the sand afterward at waters edge and let the waves wash up over us. Thank goodness my birthday is in August..California ocean water is cold!
It's a mystery for me as to why one person takes a place in your heart as your closest friend, or you theirs. Marisa is and has been that person in my life. I have amazing, beautiful friends both male and female and yet somehow it's different. I know part of it is the level of mutual trust, transparency and unbroken loyalty. Sometimes the magic isn't easy to explain.
